Summertime Day Trips

Summer is in full swing and the Inn is bustling with guests. Cassidy’s school is closed for the summer and we have been taking advantage of the beautiful weather by going on lots of day trips. Whether you are an active outdoors person or just enjoy a scenic drive with lunch, there is literally something for everyone in the north country. Below is a list of our current favorites. As always, if you happen to see our little family out and about make sure to say hello!

Berry Picking: Fruit picking is a quintessential Vermont activity. There are tons of You-Pick fruit farms around the state. The first crop of the summer is strawberries followed by raspberries, blueberries and of course apples in the fall. Our favorite place is River Berry Farm in Fairfax, VT. They are a family owned organic farm that also has a vegetable farmstand.

Paddle Boarding: I first started SUPing when I lived in Oregon and it’s a perfect low key way to enjoy Lake Champlain. My favorite place is SandBar State Park in South Hero. There is easy lake access and a cove that is protected from boats. With sandy beaches, picnic tables and cooking grills, it’s a perfect way to spend a summer afternoon.

Biking along Lake Champlain: If you are looking for a truly unique Vermont experience, look no further than the Island Line Trail. This scenic 13.4 mile bike trail takes you from Burlington up to the islands in northern Vermont offering incredible views of Lake Champlain. Be sure to pack some cash for the bike ferry and a picnic to enjoy at the many beaches and parks. Want to make the day even more grand? Stop by Snow Farm Vineyard for a wine tasting!
