Harvest season is my favorite time of year. With warm sunny days, cool evenings, and the leaves changing color; fall is the most enchanting season Vermont has to offer. We are thankful that the weather has stayed dry and warm which is perfect for exploring all the local corn mazes, apple orchards and pumpkin patches.
The Inn is very busy this time of year with guests from all around the world coming to “leaf peep” and this year the foliage has delivered. The mountainsides are painted in beautiful reds, yellows and oranges. Our family has been has enjoying hiking on Mt. Mansfield and Mountain Biking around the Jericho community.
Our gardens produced a bountiful amount of produce this year and we have been busy doing what I affectionally call “squirrel behavior”. From pesto to salsa to tomato sauce, I have been processing everything we grew this summer to enjoy all winter long. Soup Bread and Ale will return for the second season this winter and I am thrilled to announce that I have processed about 50 pounds of butternut squash and 10 dozen ears of roasted corn!
The 50th Anniversary of the Old Fashioned Harvest Market will be held on September 28th and 29th and we are so looking forward to this fun family friendly event! For two days, our town and the neighboring town of Underhill explode with craft vendors, food venders, music, yard sales. There is even a parade and kid’s zone. Thousands of people flock to this event and it’s a wonderful way to support our community. Personally, I’m looking forward to my neighbor Hank’s Kettle Corn and finding a new piece for art for the Inn.
If you see us at the Harvest Market, make sure to say hello! Or even better, if you see our little firepit glowing in the evenings, come on down! Guests and community members are always welcome. Happy Fall Everyone!
